Storm Assistance for Immigrants (SAI)
As a result of the storms that affected Californian communities from December 2022 through April 2023, the Mixteco Indigena Project (MICOP) was selected by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) to provide direct assistance to undocumented immigrant families in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties who were affected by the storms and are ineligible for federal assistance. The funds are to help storm-affected individuals and families cover certain necessary costs, including housing, food and transportation costs.
Service Period:
- The program will be available until May 31, 2024 or until all funds are expended. Assistance will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible individuals. Applicants may only seek assistance from nonprofit organizations assigned to their county of residence or county in which they were affected (county in which they worked and/or resided).
Eligibility Criteria:
- Not eligible for Federal/FEMA assistance
- Suffered hardship due to the storm (e.g. reduced work hours or no work due to the storm, your home was damaged in some way, or you were unable to pay rent due to lack of work).
- Live or work in Ventura, San Luis Obispo or Santa Barbara County.
- Eligibility will not be based on the applicant's financial need.
