Tequio Scholarship
Application Period: March 24, 2025 - May 19, 2025
MICOP is offering three scholarship types:
- Tequio Scholarship: For Indigenous students attending college or university.
- MICOP Edison Scholarship: For Indigenous STEM students attending a 4-year university.
- GCHP Behavioral Wellness Scholarship Fund: For Indigenous students or those from farmworking families pursuing studies in behavioral health and committed to providing direct services in Ventura County after graduation.
*The scholarship committee will review all applications and determine scholarship amounts based on eligibility and quality of application. Please see the eligibility criteria below.
TEQUIO SCHOLARSHIP FUND ELIGIBILITY:
(Previous scholarship recipients are encouraged to apply)
- Open to students of Mexican Indigenous background.
- Students must reside in or have recently resided in Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, or San Luis Obispo County.
- Open to high school seniors (class of 2025), or current, community college, or university students. This scholarship opportunity is open to students navigating their educational journey “non-traditionally.”
- Students must be enrolled or planning to enroll in the Fall 2025 semester in college, university, or trade school (part- or full-time).
- Undocumented, AB540, DACA, and US citizens are eligible.
MICOP’S EDISON SCHOLARSHIP FUND ELIGIBILITY:
(MUST meet the following requirements)
- Student must meet the requirements for the Tequio Scholarship plus the following:
- Be a STEM major in the following fields: computer and information systems, engineering, engineering technology, management information systems, mathematics, natural resources and conservation, and physical sciences.
- Enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at a four-year university and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year 2024-2025. (Applicants for this scholarship must be full-time students)
TEQUIO GCHP SCHOLARSHIP FUND ELIGIBILITY:
(Previous scholarship recipients are encouraged to apply)
- Must be enrolled in a behavioral health or wellness program, from certificate to doctoral level (e.g., Community Health Worker, Peer Support Specialist, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, LEP, Psychiatrist), Speech/Language, Occupational and Physical therapy for Autism.
- Self-identify as being from a Mexican Indigenous background (e.g., Mixteco, Zapoteco, Purepecha,
- Triqui, Otomi, Huave, Nahua) and/or from a farm-working family or background.
- Students must reside in or have recently resided in Ventura County.
- Open to high school seniors (class of 2025), or current, community college, or university students.
- This scholarship opportunity is open to students navigating their educational journey “non-traditionally”.
- Lived experience with Behavioral Health/substance use concerns
- Previous scholarship recipients are given preference.
- Students must be enrolled or planning to enroll in the Spring 2025 semester in college, university, or trade school (part- or full-time).
- Undocumented, AB540, DACA, and U.S. citizens are eligible.
