Mujeres Indígenas Avanzando Juntas

MICOP has partnered with the Women’s Foundation of California’s Bridge to Living Wage Initiative to train Mixteco and Zapoteco speakers to enter the healthcare workforce.  MICOP is training a cadre of 15 women to be medical interpreters and health promotores, and will partner with area clinics to provide shadowing experiences of professional interpreters and promotores.  Trainees recently completed their 40-hour medical interpreter training by Lourdes Cerna, an experienced instructor with the California Healthcare Interpreter Association.  MICOP is also launching an Indigenous Interpreters Network to provide professional support.
